I am encouraged to hear Thompson’s thoughts, and If I might dovetail his observations, it was the Founders classical education and training in the Greek and Latin that produced our Independence and Liberalism.
By abandoning that “education” of the virtues and true “free mindedness” we produced illiberalism, thinking that we were emancipating ourselves by unshackling from the so called chains of Tradition and Classics.
Only the most important book written since 'Atlas Shrugged'. Maybe even more so because it represents a return to our philosophical roots, something that must be reclaimed if the 'spirit of liberty' is to ever be reborn in a people who have lost their way.
