I think you are quite right. Any Republican trying this might as well instantly resign from the Party as currently constructed. Trump needs to be thoroughly repudiated or dead for anything different to have a chance with them. So that leaves the Democrats whose views, at least in the mainstream, appear to get more radical and extreme every day. A good place to start would be for a substantial majority of the Congressional Democrats to vigorously support Biden's stand on Israel and Ukraine on the grounds of those people's right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. I believe such a stand would be immensely popular, would repudiate the nihilistic extreme leftists in their party,
and give them a sensibility that could be used to build the truly liberal coalition you are advocating.
Well, not a single Democrat voted against Ukraine aid (I believe one voted "present"), while more Republicans voted against Ukraine aid than for it. The number of Democrats who voted against Israel aid is greater than the number of Republicans who voted against it, but it was still a minority faction, not even a majority of the "progressives" (as counted by the New York Times). See here: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/04/20/us/politics/ukraine-israel-foreign-aid-vote.html
Mainstream Democrats are more reasonable than the ones who get all the headlines--or who dominate online. The online dominance is still a major problem and an obstacle to the party's sanity. But at the same time, the Republican Party has been pretty effective recently at purging the reasonable people.
I don't think we have great electoral options or prospects for a long time. The change is going to have to come at a different level. As usual.
I just became a paid subscriber, but am unable to access the video of your conversation. YT denies access and states that "This video is private." Perhaps you meant to designate the video as being unlisted but accessible to those who have the direct link?

Ditto, I was unable to see it because it was marked "private".

It got unexpectedly jammed up in the upload. I should have it fixed by the end of the day.
Thanks!
It's fixed now, and the video is properly embedded.
It is indeed - Thanks! I prefer to add these longer videos to my YouTube "Watch Later" queue and then watch them on my TV using the YT app.
